A Change of Pace
I’m really touched by the comments and the email I’ve received since my post about my blog (rather, my decision of whether or not to keep it active). I thought a long while about it and finally just asked myself what, if anything, would it take for me to keep blogging and be content about it? That’s when I started realizing that my desire to write hasn’t necessarily decreased; it’s more that I feel like I’m doing a disservice to those who come here based on the idea that they are going to find a weight loss/maintenance blog. Though I do write about those topics on occasion, I don’t feel as though this blog adequately represents the wonderful community that embraced me nearly three years ago.
The other day I ran into an acquaintance while shopping for art supplies. She said, ‘Are you still writing that blog online?‘ I replied that I was. Then she asked the question that stumped me: ‘What is it that you write about again?’ Hmm. Good question. ‘Um…right now, I’d say that my blog is suffering from multiple topic disorder,’ I replied.
That’s basically true. This is a chronic pain blog. It’s an art blog. A small-business blog. A maintenance blog. A golden retriever blog.
It’s a blog about my garden; about my attempts to become a better person. I write about insecurities and triumphs; reviews of my favorite things, and life as I see it. In essence, this blog is a thumbprint of everything that I am. When I first began blogging I happily posted 6 times a week without fail and every topic I wrote about was in direct relation to weight loss and working on issues that would help me become a better person. When readers came, they knew what to expect and I enjoyed being a category-specific blog. Over time however, things change; people change, and the things they want to write about sometimes, just….changes.
After much consideration I have decided to keep my blog active; I’ve renewed my domain for another year. I am happy about that because for me it means a new start. While my web address will remain the same (FatGirlWearingThin.com) I will be giving my home a bit of a makeover, complete with a new title; something less restrictive.
SO….Be on the lookout over the next month for a few changes around here. For those of you who’ve written to say that you’ve missed my weight loss topics and/or expected more of a support blog, I recommend that you visit my blog roll, as those are some of the finest health conscious writers I know. For the rest of you who are up for the unexpected, I welcome you as I begin a new chapter of my blog.
